History: Going into their fifth season without an Eredivisie title in 2008/09, Ajax Amsterdam finished a disappointing 3rd place by the end of the season as the managerial merry-go-round to break rivals, PSV Eindhoven's dominance in the latter part of the 2000s with four straight title wins. After losing key defender, John Heitinga in the summer and main goalscorer, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in the January window, saw the rise of a certain Uruguay striker named Luis Suarez signed the previous season with 22 goals. Suarez would go on to score a staggering 35 goals the following season that won Dutch KNVB Cup and helped restore the club's dominance in the first part of 2010s.
