History: Arsenal endured another trophyless campaign in 2010/11, finishing fourth in the Premier League and qualifying for the Champions League. Arsène Wenger’s young side showed attacking flair through Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri, Cesc Fàbregas and Theo Walcott. They reached the League Cup final but suffered a late 2–1 defeat to Birmingham City. In Europe, Arsenal exited the Champions League last 16 after Barcelona overturned a first-leg deficit. Their FA Cup run ended against Manchester United, while inconsistent form ultimately prevented a serious title challenge.
Andrei Arshavin starred for Zenit Saint Petersburg before joining Arsenal in 2009, becoming their record signing at the time. The creative Russian impressed with four goals against Liverpool in 2009. He returned to Zenit in 2013, later retiring after spells in Russia and Kazakhstan.
