History: Charlton Athletic FC during the Barclays years became sort of a cult team to follow, and many bigger sides' bogey team to play against under their second longest serving manager, Alan Curbishley. The 2003/04 season saw the Addicks stole a coup to sign West Ham favourite and controversial footballer, Paolo Di Canio. Di Canio's sole season at the club yielded just five goals but helped the London club to finish in their highest top flight placing(7th) that would have qualified Charlton for the UEFA Cup if not for that year's Carling Cup final not contested by two mid-table rivals, Middlesbrough & Bolton Wanderers.
