History: Before the current 2024/25 season, Ipswich Town's last top flight appearance was the 2001/02 season, only spending two seasons in the Premier League after their last relegation in 94/95. The Tractor Boys, under George Burley shocked the Premier League in the 2000/01 finishing in fifth place that qualified them to the UEFA Cup for the first time since 1982.

With the Tractor Boys qualified for Europe, Ipswich Town searched for continental pedigree with the signings of Sixto Peralta signed from Inter Milan on loan, Pablo Couñago, Matteo Sereni, Thomas Gaardsøe & Nigerian winger, Finidi George, a Champions League winner with the 1995 Ajax side, to replicate the side that won the same competition under Sir Bobby Robson twenty years before. With the East Anglia side suffering a 'second season sydrome' domestically, the Blues faithful were treated to a European venture in the UEFA Cup, beating Torpedo Moscow & Helsingbord in the first two rounds. A daunting third round tie against Italian giants, Inter Milan. George Burley's side held their own in the first leg against an Inter side missing Ronaldo Nazario & Christian Vieri but still fielded an impressive team with Clarence Seedorf, Francesco Toldo, Ivan Córdoba, Nicola Ventola and the Zanetti brothers in the side, with Marco Materazzi and a young Adriano on the bench. A shock 1-0 home win brought high hopes, however, the second leg proved to be a match too far for Ipswich as they were blew away at San Siro with Christian Vieri back in the side scoring a hat-trick for the Nerazurri. With the Blues unable to win any of the last three games of the season, relegation was confirmed on the final gameweek condemning Ipswich Town twenty years outside the English top flight.
