History: 1997/98 saw an English phenomenon breaking into the Premier League that launched the career of then 18 year old Michael Owen into superstardom as he finished that season as the top scorer alongside seasoned professionals in Dion Dublin & Chris Sutton with 18 goals each. Owen's paced and finishing earned himself a spot in Glen Hoddle's England team in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, where he announced himself to the world with a brilliant solo goal against Argentina in the Round of 16. Owen kept up his scoring prowess for the next couple of years, winning the League Cup, FA Cup & UEFA Cup treble in 2001 and was named the winner of that year's Ballon d'Or, the last Englishman to win football's prestigious individual award.
