History: Worn for the 1994/95 & retained for the following season, during which sandwiched by a lengthy ban to club captain & talismanic playmaker in Eric Cantona. The 94/95 season was the first time in the Premier League era that Manchester United ended a season trophyless. Losing the title on the last day of the season to Blackburn Rovers followed with a runners up medal in the 1995 FA Cup final, losing to Everton.

The failure in retaining the league and FA Cup turned out to be a consequential one for the Old Trafford faithful as Alex Ferguson wielded the axe to several prominent and long serving stalwarts at the club. Paul Ince was sold to Internazionale with Mark Hughes leaving for Chelsea, Andrei Kanchelskis moved on to Everton.

The 1995/96 was a nervy one for the fans as despite selling off the club's key players in midfield and attack, there were no major summer signing by the time the season begun. United started the first game with four academy graduates in the side, with three more on the bench. One of the academy graduates, a certain David Beckham, came off the bench to score the side's only goal in a 3-1 loss to Aston Villa. The loss prompted pundit Alan Hansen to quip "You can't win anything with kids" after the game. Powered by the Class of '92, United went unbeaten in the next ten games, coincided by Eric Cantona's return in the draw against Liverpool. Newcastle United looked to be running away with the league with a 10-point lead after the Red Devils' winless run in December until Christmas with the points gap at 12 by January.

Preying on Newcastle's own run of poor form and a heated title race, Alex Ferguson's mind game provoked Newcastle manager, Kevin Keegan into an infamous rant at Ferguson live on radio on 29th April 1996 with two games to go. A 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest left Newcastle needing to win against Tottenham Hotspur with Manchester United losing to Middlesbrough in the penultimate game. However, another draw saw Fergie's Fledgings beat Newcastle United to the title by four points. United would go on to do the double, beating Liverpool courtesy of an Eric Cantona thunderbolt.
