History: When Sir Alex Ferguson was looking for a new midfield dynamo to replace the departed Roy Keane, many United fans did not expect Michael Carrick as the only outfield signing let alone being the tough tackling holding midfielder that was not part of his style of play. Carrick instead uses his football IQ, composure on reading the game to dictate the tempo combining with his vision & passing range. The England's answer to Andrea Pirlo, however, the appreciation of a simplistic style player was not highly valued in the England setup as Carrick was regularly overlooked for the starting position over the Frank Lampards, Steven Gerrard & Owen Hargreaves of the "Golden Generation" period. Carrick's first season at United helped the club to end the three year title drought and the second three peat of Premier League titles in United/English football history.
