History: The New York Cosmos may be inactive in today's US Soccer context, but their legacy is an iconic piece of American soccer history. The 2010s saw the New York Cosmos making a nostalgic revival hinting at competing in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a New York team before joining the reboot of the North American Soccer League (NASL). The late 2010s saw the club and the league which they played in floundered in competition with the cash rich MLS which saw many clubs dropped out, resulting in the Cosmos joining division 3 status National Premier League before closing operations months before Covid pandemic.
