History: In 2002/03 season, Harry Redknapp was appointed manager of Portsmouth FC who has not been in the English top flight since 1987/88 season. The South coast club found themselves winning the old First Division to promote into the Premier League. Despite being little known and fancied for the drop in their first season back, the Pompeys managed to sign some ageing big names in the English football (Tim Sherwood, Teddy Sheringham, Patrik Berger, Eyal Berkovic, Shaka Hislop) and had players who were gradually fondly known as a Barclaysmen in the Barclays sponsored era of the Premiership such as Yakubu Ayegbeni, Matthew Taylor, Arjen de Zeeuw. Kanu's stay at the club made him one of the favourites with the supporters as his stay was punctuated with an FA Cup win in just his second season, scoring the only goal in the Final against fellow surprise finalist, Cardiff City and winning the Man of the Match to etched his name as Portsmouth legend.
