History:
Scotland entered the 1992–93 period following their Euro 1992 campaign, where they finished third in their group despite a memorable 3–0 victory over the Commonwealth of Independent States. Under Andy Roxburgh, the Scots turned their attention to qualifying for the 1994 World Cup. They opened with a 3–1 defeat to Switzerland but earned goalless draws against Portugal and Italy. Ally McCoist scored twice in a 3–0 win over Malta, although a heavy 5–0 defeat in Lisbon exposed their qualifying struggles.
