History: Sporting CP’s 2004/05 season was dramatic and bittersweet. Under coach José Peseiro, the Lisbon club impressed domestically and in Europe. In the Primeira Liga they challenged for the title but inconsistent results saw them finish third, missing out on the championship. Their UEFA Cup campaign was far more memorable, with Sporting defeating Feyenoord, Middlesbrough and Newcastle to reach the final, held at their own Estádio José Alvalade.
