History:
Tampines Rovers endured challenging campaigns in 1996 and 1997 as they struggled to establish themselves in the early S.League era. In 1996, the Stags finished eighth in the Tiger Beer Series before placing seventh in the Pioneer Series, winning just five of 28 matches across both stages. Their fortunes improved slightly in 1997, finishing sixth in the nine-team league with 15 points from 16 matches. Recording four victories, three draws and nine defeats, Tampines remained a mid-table side during their formative years.
