History: When U.S. Salernitana won promotion to Serie A in 2021, little did the club expect to pull off a feat, signing Franck Ribery on a free transfer to aid the club's bid to retain their top flight status. Immediately made club captain, Ribery made 23 appearances as his role save the club from relegation by the skin of their teeth. Ribery's contract was extended upon keeping the club in Serie A, however, the continued niggling knee injury saw the club & player part ways after one more appearance the following season and Ribery announced his retirement, taking a technical role with the Italian minnows.
